Coastal Cities

Coastal Cities is an indie rock and indie pop group from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, in the United Kingdom. Formed in 2009, the band starts with three teenagers who meet while in school detention and discover a shared interest in music. They then add two friends and take the name Coastal Cities, choosing a title that suggests places beyond their hometown and away from the local scene they want to distinguish themselves from.

Sound and early support

The band’s music combines jagged post-punk guitar work with 1980s-style keyboard lines and a youthful feel. This sound helps them build a local and online following. Their audience includes BBC DJs and the band The Drums, who comment on Coastal Cities’ first EP, Think Tank.

Releases and live appearances

Coastal Cities gain attention with the single “Relief / The Voyage”. They also release Entropic / Nothing Ever Changes in 2013. Around the same period, they perform at the Kitsune night at Les Inrocks Festival in Paris and at 1,2,3,4 in London.

Later development

By the time of these releases and appearances, the group has recently left college and continues presenting its own version of UK indie. It remains active from 2009 to the present.
