Close Counters

Close Counters are a Melbourne-based electronic group made up of Allan McConnell and Finn Rees. The pair develop a sound centred on house, soul and jazz, with dense synths and prominent basslines, and their music sits across indie, house, disco and electronic styles.

They gain radio and online support from Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio 6, triple j, KCRW, FBi Radio, SYN and 3RRR, alongside coverage from Indie Shuffle, Pilerats, The Burning Ear, Hillydilly, Kick Kick Snare, Stoney Roads and The Sound You Need. Their EP Refractions appears on Exist Recordings, the label run by The Kite String Tangle, and receives attention from blogs, streaming platforms and radio, including wider triple j and Unearthed coverage. Their single “HEY!!!” also receives praise from Tommy Faith, who describes it as an original that Kaytranada would approve of.

Close Counters perform widely in Australia and sell out two shows at The Night Cat after a breakout set at Meredith Festival. They also support Shaggy, Roland Tings and Tall Black Guy, and appear at Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, Strawberry Fields, MONA FOMA and Party in the Paddock, as well as showcase events including EMC and BIGSOUND.
