Cleavers
Cleavers are a Scottish garage punk band from the United Kingdom, formed in 2011. The group begins with members of Urgent Blood, Genetic Mutation and Atomgevitter, and one listed member is Danny Crombie. They remain active.
Recording and releases
The band records and releases music in a DIY way. Their first EP is written and recorded quickly using a cheap mixer and free recording software, and it is produced entirely independently, with hundreds of copies given away.
Live work and recognition
Cleavers tour across the UK and play a range of small and mid-sized spaces, including living rooms, basements, wood-panelled pubs and other venues. They sell large numbers of T-shirts and stickers, receive airplay on BBC Radio 1, and are named among BBC Radio Scotland’s Top 35 Scottish Artists to watch in 2012.
Style
Their live sets are described as energetic and combine synths, erratic jamming and pop melodies with bursts of fast garage punk. Their sound is compared with Black Flag, Fucked Up and Jay Reatard.
