Circulus are a United Kingdom group active since 1999. They work in folk rock, progressive rock and psychedelic folk, and are based around South London, England.

Formation and style

The group is put together by vocalist and songwriter Michael Tyack. Their sound combines psychedelic folk and progressive rock, and they use a mixture of modern and medieval instruments. Among the instruments associated with the band are lute, bongos, bass and electric guitars.

Identity and themes

Circulus present themselves with a deliberately archaic outlook, linking their idea of “high-life” with medieval life. They also claim to believe in fairies and pixies, and describe their work in self-deprecating terms as “hurtful to people’s ears.”
