Circles

Circles is a name used by several different artists, including an Australian metal band, an early 1980s ambient and experimental krautrock duo, and several punk, hardcore, indie rock and solo electronic projects in different locations.

Australian metal band

The Australian Circles make progressive metal with djent influences, along with elements of math metal, hardcore and electronic music. Their debut six-track EP, The Compass, draws on technically minded bands such as Periphery and Textures, while its vocal and lyrical approach is compared with early Incubus and Faith No More. The band is associated with the label Basick Records and is described as using detailed production and prominent guitar work.

Early 1980s krautrock duo

Another Circles is the obscure ambient and experimental krautrock duo Buschi B. Buchweitz and Mike Bohrmann. Active in the early 1980s, they release three albums under the name Circles: Circles, More Circles and The Third Cycle. These records appear on their independent label, Einhorn Music. The duo also works under the parallel project D.O.C., short for Das Organisierte Chaos.

Other acts called Circles include a one-man band from San Diego created by Ryan Dixon, which mixes improvisational jazz, funk and experimental music and is based around long individual studio sessions for each song; an electro-powerpop and chiptune artist from Lynnwood, Washington, later known as Electric Children and formerly in the chiptune duo Fighter X; a punk and hardcore band from Vancouver, British Columbia; a Philadelphia group blending jazz and noise with folk and country influences; a pos-rock band from Surrey, UK; a hardcore punk band from Nantes, France; and an indie rock and pop band from Lubbock, Texas.
