Cicada

Cicada is a UK electronic music group from the United Kingdom. The line-up includes Aaron Gilbert, Heiðrún Björnsdóttir and Alex Payne. The group works in electro house and is also associated here with dance, post-rock and neoclassical styles.

Releases and collaborations

The group releases several singles and albums in the 2000s and early 2010s. Its debut album, Cicada, appears in the summer of 2006 on Critical Mass Records. A second album, Roulette, follows in 2009 and includes “Falling Rockets”, “Metropolis”, “Psycho Thrills” and “One Beat Away”. A third album, Sunburst, appears in 2011 and includes the singles “Fast Cars”, “Your Love” and “Come Together”.

Earlier singles include “The Things You Say”, “Cut Right Through” and “Electric Blue”. “The Things You Say” and “Cut Right Through” feature vocals by Jennifer Lamb. The group also works with a number of guest vocalists, including Tom Smith of Editors, Ben Onono, Max Berlin, Bjorn from Pacific!, Fleur East, Megan Quashie, Joel Pott and Shahin Badar.

Remixes and media use

Cicada also produces remixes for Depeche Mode, New Order, Chicane, Dannii Minogue, LeAnn Rimes, Client, Blu Mar Ten and The Veronicas, among others. Its track “Falling Rockets” is used in The Big Bang Theory, and “Don’t Stare At the Sun” appears in a Revlon commercial featuring Jessica Biel.

Activity

The group is active in the mid-2000s through to the early 2010s and is later on hiatus.
