Chrome Molly

Chrome Molly are a heavy metal band from Leicester, active from 1981 to the present. The group forms in Leicestershire in 1981, initially with John Antcliffe and drummer Chris Green, then with bassist Nic Wastell joining soon after. The original line-up is completed in 1982 when Steve Hawkins becomes the frontman. Mark Godfrey is listed as a member.

Early releases and media attention

The band releases its first single, You Said, in 1983 on Bullet Records. The song receives favourable attention in the music press, including being named single of the week by KERRANG! writer Mark Putterford. It also reaches number 6 in the Heavy Metal charts that year.

In January 1985, Chrome Molly record four tracks at Maida Vale Studios, including Too Far Gone and Lose Again. These recordings are broadcast the following month on Tony Wilson’s Radio One rock show.

Albums and compilations

Their discography includes You Can’t Have It All on Powerstation in 1985, Stick It Out on Powerstation in 1987, Angst on I.R.S. in 1988, Slaphead on Music For Nations in 1990, and Gunpowder Diplomacy on Edel in 2013. They also appear on Metal Killers Kollection in 1985 and Metal Killers Kollection Volume 3 in 1988, both issued by Castle Communications PLC.

Split and reforming

Chrome Molly split in 1991, then reform in 2009 after a long break.
