Christopher Owens is an American singer-songwriter from Miami, Florida, best known for his work in the band Girls and for his solo recordings. He is born in 1979. He is also associated with indie pop, chamber pop, and indie music.

Career

Owens begins his solo career after leaving Girls and releases his debut solo album, Lysandre, on Fat Possum. The album is completed only a short time after his departure from the band. It is written largely in one stretch after the release of Girls’ debut album, Album.

Lysandre is a concept-driven record based on a real woman named Lysandre, whom Owens meets and falls in love with while touring. Owens says he shapes the record so that theme, chords, and form work together across the album, with the songs linked by recurring musical and narrative elements and much of the record staying in the key of A.

Background

Owens is described as a San Francisco singer-songwriter with an unusual personal history and a modelling contract. His work with Girls and his solo material place him within American indie music as both a band member and a solo artist.
