Chris Watson is an experimental electronic musician and sound recordist from Sheffield, United Kingdom, born in 1952. He is associated with field recording, ambient, animal sounds, dark ambient, modern classical and sound collage.
Career
Watson is known as the “third member” of Cabaret Voltaire and as an early member of The Hafler Trio. Alongside his own aural experiments, he develops recording techniques for natural history radio and television, including work for the BBC’s Galapagos series.
Solo work
His solo albums include Stepping into the Dark, Outside the Circle of Fire, Weather Report, Oceanus Pacificus, Cima Verde and El Tren Fantasma. These recordings appear on Touch Music apart from Cima Verde, which appears on Sound Threshold.
Collaborations
Watson also records with other artists. Star Switch On is a collaboration with Mika Vainio, Philip Jeck, Hazard, Fennesz, AER and Biosphere. Number One is with KK Null and Z’EV, and Storm is with B. J. Nilsen.
