Chris Norman

Chris Norman is an English soft rock singer and singer-songwriter from Redcar, in the United Kingdom, born in 1950. He first gains wider recognition as the frontman of Smokie, a 1970s rock group, before building a solo career. His work is generally associated with rock and soft rock.

Solo career and major songs

In 1978, Norman records “Stumblin’ In” as a duet with Suzi Quatro, and it becomes a major hit. He leaves Smokie in 1986 and releases his first solo hit, “Midnight Lady”, which reaches number one in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. In 2004, he wins the German Pro 7 television show Comeback, which leads to renewed chart success with the Top 10 single “Amazing” and the Top 30 album Breakaway. That same year, he receives the Best Voice Male award from Radio Regenbogen.

Later releases and live work

Norman releases the live double DVD An Acoustic Evening with Chris Norman in 2005. It is issued as an acoustic set with his band for an invited audience, alongside a concert recording from Vienna. His album Junction 55 is released in 2024.
