Chris Goss

Chris Goss is a musician and record producer from Syracuse, United States, born in 1958. He works in rock and is known for producing records for Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age, as well as for fronting the desert rock band Masters of Reality.

Work as a producer and musician

Goss describes his work as making unusual rock records with a regular circle of collaborators. He is associated with a style of “out of whack” rock, and he takes on producing work when artists want that sound. He records on Baby Cole Music.

Band and group projects

He is a member of Masters of Reality, Goon Moon, Desert Sessions, The Fiffiff Teeners, The Green Monarchs and Sound City Players. After recovering from a severe internal infection in 2004, he joins Jeordie White and Zach Hill in Goon Moon for the mini-album I Got a Brand New Egg-Laying Machine. He also appears with Josh Homme under the name THE 5.15ers at ArthurFest’s winter edition, where the set is assembled at short notice.

Masters of Reality and related work

Goss leads Masters of Reality, and the band’s album Give Us Barabbas is followed by a postponed European tour because of his illness in late 2004. His work is closely tied to the wider desert rock and stoner rock scene, and he is linked with Josh Homme, Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age through collaborations and production work.
