Chris Cargo is an Irish DJ and producer associated with progressive trance, progressive and electronic music. Based in Belfast, he works across house styles in his sets, ranging from deep house to jackin’ beats, and builds his performances around variety rather than a single fixed sound.
He has spent more than a decade active in electronic music in Ireland and is known for a touring schedule that takes him beyond the UK, with appearances in places including Kuala Lumpur, Amsterdam, Mexico, Siberia, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Vilnius, Hamburg, Athens, Beijing, Belarus, Zurich and Moscow. He also plays frequently in the UK, and has performed at Lush! in Portrush.
Cargo has released and remixed a large amount of material, with around 40 productions and remixes to his name. He records under the breaks alias Carganoid and has re-edited tracks by Green Velvet. His releases include chunky progressive work for Renaissance, as well as Cityscape on Renaissance, Shift It on Choo Choo, You R on Kumquat Tunes, Warning on Slide Recordings and You Askd For This on Adjust.
He also works in collaboration with other producers. With Barry Gilbey, under the name Mara, he makes Chunkafunk for Choo Choo Records, and the track receives support from acts including The Plump DJs and Meat Katie. With Col Hamilton, under the Hamilton: Cargo name, he releases Broken Piano on Pravo, the label started by Futureshock. Other remix work includes material for Rozalla, Ricky Stone, Kid Lopez, Hardy Heller and Inkfish.
His compilation appearances include releases for Renaissance, Intec, Seb Fontaine, Danny Howells, Valentino Kanzyani, Anthony Pappa, Slinky, Privilege-Ibiza and Global Underground. He also presents a monthly mix show for the Balance Record Pool on Proton Radio and completes a month-long tour of China with Smirnoff Black, China Loop and Renaissance.
His work receives praise from DJ Magazine and M8 magazine, and he is described as one of Ireland’s notable producers through the breadth of his releases, remixes and international DJ dates.
