Chasing Dragons

Chasing Dragons are a five-piece hard rock group from Leeds, UK, active since 2011. The band forms fully in January 2011 and is led by female vocals, with a sound described through references to hard rock, rock and metal, alongside melodic guitar work and energetic performances.

Style and formation

The group is associated with a female-fronted blend of hard rock and metal influences, drawing comparisons to acts such as Avenged Sevenfold, AFI, Aiden and Paramore. Their music is marked by chunky riffs, harmonious guitar lines and a vocal style that sits at the centre of their sound. The band name comes from the members’ interest in dragon-based video games.

Early releases and recordings

In May 2011, Chasing Dragons release early demos called Into The Pit and Under The Earth. They later issue their debut EP, Take Flight For a Firefight, which features production from Graeme Atkinson and Carl Bown. The EP presents songs dealing with subjects such as riots, rebellion, relationships and reflection. Their debut video is for the single Spawn Of The Succubus.

Live activity and performances

From their early period, the band plays a wide range of venues, including The Cockpit, Gasworks, Bradford Rios, Empire, Corporation, Blackflag and Jabez Clegg. They also perform alongside groups such as Attack!Attack! and The Headstart, and play with acts across pop punk, rock and roll and heavy metal, showing an ability to adapt to different audiences and bills.

In 2011, they appear at Metal Fringe, part of Leeds Fringe Festival, and play the main stage at Sheffield LGBT Pride in July 2011 in front of a large crowd. Their live shows build a local following and bring radio interviews, plays and reviews.

Line-up changes and later activity

Founding bassist Joe Hayton leaves in November 2011, and Ant joins the band afterwards. The group continues to book heavily for UK touring and to build its profile through live dates and recordings. Chasing Dragons are also linked with endorsements from Arkaik Clothing, All The Rage Apparel and Dovetail Strings.
