Chase Atlantic

Chase Atlantic are an Australian group formed in 2014 in Cairns, Queensland. The band consists of Christian Anthony, Clinton Cave and Mitchel Cave. They release music through Chase Atlantic Music Pty Ltd. and are identified with alternative pop, electropop and pop rap, while also being described in their own terms as a dark blend of alternative pop with rock and R&B elements.

Formation and early work

Before using the Chase Atlantic name, the three musicians perform together in 2013 as K.I.D.S. (Kind Imaginations. Destructive Situations.) and release the original song “Addicted”. Christian Anthony and Mitchel Cave are previously in the boy band What About Tonight, which they form to audition for the fourth season of The X Factor Australia. They are eliminated in week two and finish in eleventh place.

Mitchel Cave’s older brother, Clinton Cave, has a YouTube channel called Clinton Cave Music, where the brothers regularly release cover versions. Chase Atlantic first records music under its later name when Clinton brings in Mitchel and Christian to help with a university project. The name itself is said to come from two words the members like rather than from a specific meaning.

Releases and style

The group’s early sound is often described as pop rock and pop punk, before developing towards a more alternative R&B direction over time. Their influences include Tame Impala, The Weeknd, The 1975 and The Neighbourhood.

Chase Atlantic release seven EPs and four albums. Their first official EP, Dalliance, appears in 2014, followed by Nostalgia in 2015. The track “Friends” gains wider recognition through Tumblr edits and is certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry in 2022. The band also releases “Obsessive” in 2016, then Paradise later that year, which they support with extensive promotion and an Australian tour where they perform the EP in full.

In 2017 they release Part One, Part Two and Part Three, and their self-titled debut album Chase Atlantic follows in October that year. Their second album, PHASES, is preceded by “HER”, “STUCKINMYBRAIN” and “LOVE IS (NOT) EASY”. Their third studio album, BEAUTY IN DEATH, appears in 2021 and later receives a deluxe edition. The group also records a collaborative single with dark pop artist PLVTINUM, “Hit My Line”, during the album cycle.

Later releases include “Mamacita” in 2023, “DIE FOR ME” and “DOUBT IT” in 2024, and the album LOST IN HEAVEN, which includes those singles. A deluxe edition, LOST IN HEAVEN (HIGH AS HELL), follows in 2025 and adds “FACEDOWN”, “REMIND ME”, “WARCRY” and “VICTORY LAP” featuring DE’WAYNE.

Tours and live activity

Chase Atlantic build an early live following through Australian and international touring. They sign with MDDN in early 2016 after attracting the attention of Benji and Joel Madden, and later sign to Warner Bros. Records for the Part One era before leaving the label and becoming independent in 2018.

The band’s first United States tour comes in 2017 supporting Sleeping with Sirens. They later play their first headlining US tour, then support Blackbear in Australia. In 2018 they tour with Lights and appear at festivals including Bonnaroo, Vans Warped Tour 2018 and Reading/Leeds Festival 2018. In 2019 they announce the Phases Tour in North America in support of PHASES. Their later touring includes North American and UK/EU dates linked to LOST IN HEAVEN, and a headline appearance with YUNGBLUD at Bludfest in the UK.
