Chartreuse
Chartreuse is a British group from the United Kingdom. The name is used by more than one act, including a Birmingham four-piece, an ambient/drone project, and a 1970s rock band.
Birmingham band
Chartreuse begins as a British four-piece band from Birmingham. Michael Wagstaff and Harriet Wilson start writing folk music together in 2013. In summer 2014, Perry Lovering joins on bass and keyboard, and Rory Wagstaff joins on drums, expanding the project into a full four-piece. The group is associated with indie, ambient, indie folk and indie pop.
Ambient/drone project
Chartreuse also refers to the ambient/drone project of Drew Smith. Smith is the guitarist for doom-rock group Chrissakes and the drummer for the now-defunct thrash band Gasmasks & Matchsticks. His releases include the Summit EP and No More Paths to Sounder Sleep, both issued on Thor's Rubber Hammer Productions.
1970s rock band
A previous British rock band called Chartreuse forms in 1976. It is formed by Milton Reame-James and Paul Jeffreys, both of whom also play in Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. The band later changes its name to Violins.
