Charlotte Wessels

Charlotte Wessels is a Dutch singer and songwriter from Zwolle, Netherlands, born in 1987. She is known as the lead singer of the symphonic metal band Delain and also works on solo material that draws on pop rock, progressive metal and symphonic metal.

Career

Wessels performs with Delain, with whom she releases the albums Lucidity (2006), April Rain (2009), We Are The Others (2012), The Human Contradiction (2014), Moonbathers (2016) and Apocalypse & Chill (2020). Before and alongside Delain, she is also associated with the projects Phantasma, Eve’s Apple and To Elysium, and is credited as Johanna Charlotte Wessels in earlier work with ex-To Elysium and ex-Infernorama.

Solo work

Her solo career develops through Patreon, where she experiments with styles ranging from metal to dark pop, pop rock and indie. Her debut solo album, Tales from the Six Feet Under, appears in 2021 on Napalm Records, followed by Tales from the Six Feet Under Vol. II in 2022. Both albums collect tracks first released through her Patreon and present them as full-length records. In 2024 she releases The Obsession, a solo album that continues her interest in darker, cinematic song writing and wide-ranging vocals.

Wessels lives in Utrecht, Netherlands. She is also linked with a planned European tour with Epica and Amaranthe in 2026.
