Charenee Wade is an American singer, composer, arranger and educator from New York. She is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and works in both performance and teaching.

Career and recognition

Wade is first runner-up in the 2010 Thelonious Monk International Vocal Competition. Her other distinctions include a place in Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead Program, where she performs original music at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and selection as one of four artists chosen for the Dianne Reeves Young Artist Workshop at Carnegie Hall. She is also first runner-up in the Jazzmobile Vocal Competition and is selected for the JAS Academy Summer Sessions in 2007, 2008 and 2009, which are directed by Christian McBride.

Teaching and professional activity

She is a professor at the Aaron Copland School of Music at City College and works with the Jazzmobile Workshop program. She teaches workshops and clinics and serves as a judge for the 2010 Jazzmobile Vocal Competition alongside Dr. Billy Taylor and Grady Tate.

Performing and recordings

Wade performs internationally and appears at venues including the Jazz Gallery, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy Coca Cola’s, Smalls and the Zinc Bar in New York City. Her debut CD, Love Walked In, is released in July 2010.
