Celt Islam is the performance name of Muhammad Abdullah Hamzah, a Manchester-based electronic music artist associated with dub, dubstep, drum and bass, EDM, electronica and synthwave. He is also identified as an English Muslim and Sufi, and as a member of the northern British alternative dub and breaks group Nine Invisibles, as well as Analogue Fakir.

Style and work

Celt Islam makes music by combining dub, electro and drum and bass with Islamic and world-music influences. His work spans a wide range of styles, including Sufi-influenced global grooves, meditative dub and electro-dub-led drum and bass. The result is a dance-oriented crossover sound built around dub foundations.

Performances and collaborations

He appears at dub, drum and bass and dubstep nights in the UK and Europe and performs alongside acts including Public Enemy’s Bomb Squad, Fleck, DJ UMB, The Orb, Hardfloor, DJ Bobby Friction and DJ Pathaan. He is also chosen by the BBC for the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury in 2010.
