Cavalera Conspiracy
Cavalera Conspiracy is a Brazilian-American heavy metal group from Phoenix, Arizona. It is formed by brothers Max Cavalera, who handles vocals and rhythm guitar, and Igor Cavalera, who plays drums and percussion. The group is active from 2006 and performs in death metal, thrash metal, groove metal and hardcore styles, with Roadrunner Records as its label.
Formation and early history
The project begins after the Cavalera brothers reunite following a long falling out that follows their earlier work together in Sepultura, which they found in the early 1980s. Max Cavalera has already formed Soulfly, while Igor Cavalera has recorded four studio albums with Sepultura before leaving in January 2006. In July 2006, Max receives a call from Igor, invites him to Phoenix to perform at a Soulfly show, and the two play together there, including two Sepultura songs. After the show, Max suggests starting a new project and Igor agrees.
The band originally forms in 2007 under the name Inflikted, but later changes its name for legal reasons.
Line-up and collaborators
To complete the group, Max Cavalera recruits Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo and Joe Duplantier of Gojira on bass. The verified line-up for the group also includes Johny Chow, Nate Newton and Igor Amadeus Cavalera. Over time, the project includes several associated players, but the founding core remains the Cavalera brothers.
Recordings and releases
The band records its debut album at Undercity Studios in Los Angeles in July 2007 with engineer and co-producer Logan Mader. The album, Inflikted, is released through Roadrunner Records in 2008. The group then releases Blunt Force Trauma in 2011, Pandemonium in 2014 and Psychosis in 2017.
In 2022, the brothers adopt the name Cavalera to release re-recorded editions of classic Sepultura albums, which appear in 2023. One of these is Morbid Visions, released as a re-recorded version under Cavalera.
