Cats and Cats and Cats

Cats and Cats and Cats is a UK math rock and post-rock group that forms in 2005 and remains active. The band is split between Surrey and Kent and begins after the members meet while studying at the University of Hertfordshire.

Line-up

The current line-up includes Ben George on vocals and guitar, Adam Leverett on guitar and keyboards, Liam Stremel on bass, Eve Morrison on violin, Lee Richardson on drums, and John Dunstan on trumpet. Former members include Tom Baker on bass, Doug Jenkins on drums, Jamie Stafford on guitar and bass, and Luke Payne on guitar.

Releases and activity

The band releases its first EP, Victorialand, in 2005, followed in 2006 by Sweet Drunk Everyone, issued through Unlabel and Win Win Win Records. In 2007 it works with Big Scary Monsters on a split release with This Town Needs Guns, tours widely in the UK, records a BBC Radio 1 session at Maida Vale for Huw Stephens, and plays Glastonbury.

The group also receives airplay on XFM, BBC 6 Music, and Radio 1, and is covered by NME and Rock Sound. Touring includes support dates with 65daysofstatic, Foals, Blood Red Shoes, Everything Everything, Youthmovies, Redjetson, iLiKETRAiNS, Saul Williams, Errors, and Tellison. In April 2008 the band tours Europe, including France, Luxembourg, Denmark, Germany, and Holland, and in May 2008 supports ¡Forward Russia! on dates including Liverpool and Leeds.

Later releases

In 2010 the band releases If I'd Had An Atlas on Function Records. The album contains 11 tracks and is produced by Tom Woodehead. Adam Leverett and Eve Morrison state that the tours supporting that record are their last with the group. The following year the band issues its final studio album, Mother Whale, and the lo-fi collaboration The End of the Unfinished Beach under the name Cats and Cats and Cats & the terrible mouths. Function Records then releases the compilation Catsalogue in 2012.

Recent activity

The band reforms to play Arctangent Festival in 2024.
