Cassette
Cassette is a name used by a number of different recording acts, covering several countries and styles. The name appears on a Romanian deephouse project with influences from electro, funk and dance music, built around vocalist Olivia Alexandru with producers Sorin Seniuc and Ionut Catana. It also identifies a band from Gainesville, Florida, fronted by Samantha Jones, whose self-titled debut album appears on Bakery Outlet Records in 2005.
Other acts using the name
Another Cassette is a South African five-piece that releases Welcome Back To Earth in 2007 and Who Do You Trust in early 2009. There is also a New Zealand three-piece associated with acts such as Lawrence Arabia, Bachelorette and The Phoenix Foundation, and connected with the New Zealand “dream pop” movement described by Mojo. That group releases the albums Cut For Summer and The Jingle King, along with the EPs Emo and Cancer.
Other uses of the name include a Boston-based synth pop group, a UK electro band, the solo project of Miami resident Devin Smith on Atomisk Records, and a Peruvian band that does not release proper records. A Vietnamese alt-rock band styled as The Cassette also uses the name; it comes from Da Nang and forms on 23 November 2018. Its members are Tran Hoai Than on lead vocals and guitar, Nguyen Huu Thien on lead guitar, Nguyen Thoai Quynh My on bass, and Vo Tran Nguyen Thanh on drums, replacing Le Dinh Sinh. After releasing the debut studio album Rừng Đom Đóm in 2021, it builds a reputation in the underground music community and becomes one of the more prominent indie acts in Vietnam.
