Cascada

Cascada is a German Euro-pop group from Bonn, formed in 2004 and active since then. It consists of singer Natalie Horler and the DJs and producers Yanou and DJ Manian. The group is known for a dance-pop and electronic sound that sits across bubblegum dance, club, dance, dance-pop, EDM and techno.

Formation and members

Natalie Horler is born in Bonn and is of English descent. She performs alongside Yanou and DJ Manian, both German DJs and producers. The act is also known to have used the name Cascade earlier in its career.

Breakthrough and early singles

Cascada first gains wider attention with the single Miracle, which is released in Germany in 2004. Its international breakthrough comes with Everytime We Touch, a cover of the Maggie Reilly song. The track is released in the United States by Robbins Entertainment and reaches number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 5 on the Pop 100, number 4 on the Hot Digital chart and number 1 on the Dance Radio Airplay chart. In the UK it peaks at number 2.

The success of Everytime We Touch brings the group wider recognition in Europe and the United States. Robbins Entertainment notes the song’s success in radio play, including attention for the Candlelight Mix after the album appears.

Albums and later singles

The debut album, also titled Everytime We Touch, is released in 2006. It reaches number 67 on the US Billboard 200, number 3 on the US Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart and number 2 on the UK Albums Chart. The album generates eight singles in different countries, including Miracle, Everytime We Touch, Bad Boy, How Do You Do, Ready For Love, A Never Ending Dream and a cover of Savage Garden’s Truly, Madly, Deeply.

The second album, Perfect Day, is released in late 2007. It peaks at number 70 on the US Billboard 200, number 9 on the UK Albums Chart and number 2 on the US Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart. The title track for the era is What Hurts The Most, written by Jeffrey Steele, which reaches number 52 on the US Billboard Hot 100, number 29 on the Pop 100, number 1 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart and number 10 in the UK. Other singles from the album include Faded and Perfect Day in the US, and What Do You Want From Me? and Because The Night in the UK.

The third album, Evacuate The Dancefloor, is released in 2009 and reaches number 8 on the UK album chart. Its title single becomes the group’s first number 1 in the UK singles chart. It also reaches number 1 in the Netherlands, the top 10 in 13 other countries including Australia and Canada, and number 25 in the United States. Fever follows as a single and reaches the top 20 in four countries. Dangerous is the final single from the album and peaks at number 3 in Slovenia, number 10 in Finland and number 67 in the UK.

Commercial profile

Cascada is reported to have sold 11 million album copies, making it one of the best-selling German dance acts.
