Casanova

Casanova is a German hard rock band active since 1991. It is also described as an AOR and melodic rock group from Germany, with a hair rock sound.

Formation and original line-up

The band is founded by Michael Voss, who previously sings and plays guitar with Mad Max and Bonfire. Original Warlock drummer Michael Eurich joins him, alongside guitarist Stephan Neumeier and bassist Jürgen Attig. The band is later discovered in the early 1990s by producer Henry Staroste.

Releases and career

The debut album, Casanova, appears in 1991 on WEA Records, now part of Warner Music, and receives strong attention from fans and critics. In the same year the band also issues the live EP Inbetween. Work on the follow-up album begins in 1992 with One Night Stand, during which Jürgen Attig leaves and is replaced by Jochen Mayer of Boysvoice.

After One Night Stand, Casanova tours again, including support dates with Warrant and a smaller headline tour. The band later records the acoustic release Some Like It Different, produced by Accept guitarist Wolf Hoffmann, followed by another tour in Germany. These early releases become collector’s items.

Later activity

When grunge changes the market, Casanova and its label part ways. The band uses the following years to record demos and regroup, and in 1999 a Japanese offer leads to the album Heroes and the EP Sway. Interest from European labels follows, but disagreements with a label lead to the band’s split.

After Casanova

Michael Voss and Jochen Mayer continue working together in Demon Drive, where they release four albums. Voss also collaborates with Don Dokken, Don Airey, Bob Daisley and Gary Barden, and becomes known as one of Germany’s most in-demand producers. Stephan Neumeier joins German rocker Jürgen Zeltinger’s band, while Michael Eurich later performs in a partial reunion with Doro in the original Doro and Warlock line-up.
