Carter Sampson

Carter Sampson is an American singer-songwriter based in Oklahoma City. She comes from a musical family that includes Roy Orbison, and she starts performing and writing songs at the age of 15.

Career

Sampson appears at The Blue Door in Oklahoma City on several occasions, opening for Patrice Pike, Christine Kane and Susan Gibson. She also co-headlines there with Kristie Stremel and performs alongside Ray Wylie Hubbard and Kevin Welch for annual Woody Guthrie tribute shows in 2003 and 2004.

Her live work includes festivals such as Amnesty International’s Groovefest, the Paseo Arts Festival, the Oklahoma City Festival of the Arts and the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival in Okemah, where she performs twice. She also builds an audience by playing in the Boston subway system, which leads to club dates in Boston and Cambridge, including Leslie College in Massachusetts.

Recordings

Sampson tours Texas and Oklahoma with Bitch and Animal of Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records. Her fourth album, Good for the Meantime, is recorded with Travis Linville at DirtyBird Studios and mastered by Garrett Hines at Treelady Studios. Later releases include Wilder Side and Lucky.
