Carsie Blanton is an American singer-songwriter from Bethesda, United States, who is based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her work spans folk, jazz, rock and singer-songwriter styles. She is also associated with Carsie Blanton & The Burning Hell.
Background
Blanton is born Carson Amanda Blanton in 1985. She grows up on an ex-cattle farm in rural Virginia, where she is influenced by the mountains around her and by the music of John Prine and Joni Mitchell. She is the daughter of a psychologist and novelist, and a programmer and songwriter.
Early development
As a teenager, Blanton listens widely, moving from modern folk to Motown and vintage jazz. At sixteen, she travels across the country to Eugene, Oregon, to pursue work as an artist. During this period she also works briefly as a dog groomer and later as a grantwriter.
Career
In 2006, Blanton moves back east of Philadelphia. After that, she appears on stage with acts including Amos Lee, Nellie McKay and Leon Redbone. She also tours in the United States and Canada supporting Blue Note recording artists The Wood Brothers, and performs at venues including the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia, and Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, California.
