Carolyn Robson

Carolyn Robson is a singer and musician who specialises in traditional folk song and dance. Her repertoire draws mainly on songs from Northumberland and Scotland, alongside material from other parts of the British Isles.

Groups and collaborations

She performs in a number of line-ups. These include Dempsey Robson Tweed with Kevin Dempsey on guitar and voice and Karen Tweed on accordion. She also sings in a trio with Liz Law and Terry Conway. In addition, she joins the harmony group Craig Morgan Robson with Moira Craig and Sarah Morgan.

Radio and recordings

Robson also works as a radio presenter and regularly sings on radio. Her first album, Banks of Tyne, appears in 1981 on the Dingle label. Her later solo albums include All the fine young men, Dawn Chorus and Peppers & Tomatoes, all produced through her own company, Reiver Records. That label later reissues Banks of Tyne on CD. She also sings on Kathryn Tickell’s The Northumberland Collection and appears on REAL, a 2001 various-artists release associated with the Scottish Borders Tourist Board and built around songs reflecting the literary, historical and cultural traditions of the Scottish Borders.
