Caroline Kingsbury

Caroline Kingsbury is an American pop musician based in Melbourne and Los Angeles. She is a queer artist who is born and raised in the church, and she has said that she has little access to secular music until her teenage years, when discovering it leads her into music.

Debut album

Her debut album, Heaven's Just a Flight, is a 16-song release that appears in 2021. It is a personal record shaped by grief, coming out as queer, and entering her first queer relationship. During its creation, her brother Kyle dies after a five-year battle with cancer, and the album emerges during the COVID pandemic.

The album receives attention from PopMatters, which includes it in its list of the best indie-pop albums of 2021, and it is also featured by Pitchfork. Pitchfork describes it as a blend of different stylistic eras, ranging from disco to post-punk, and compares its vulnerability to Kate Bush and Karen O.

Other work and collaborations

Two songs from the debut album appear in screen projects: Fall in Love is used on the soundtrack to Scream and Breaking Apart appears on Generation on Freeform. Kingsbury also performs live alongside acts such as St Lucia and Post Animal. She is working on her next record with Charlie Brand, who is associated with Miniature Tigers, Weezer and Katzù Oso.
