Cari Cari

Cari Cari is an Austrian indie rock duo from Wien, made up of Alexander Köck and Stephanie Widmer. The group forms in 2011.

Early development

Shortly after the duo forms, Widmer leaves Austria to live in Australia, then returns six months later with a didgeridoo and a jaw harp. The pair spend the summer in an old house at Neusiedler See, where they write, experiment and record an EP titled AMERIPPINDUNKLER.

Releases and recognition

Their debut appears the following spring and draws attention from blogs, radio stations and magazines around the world. The first single, “White Line Fever”, gains wide attention on SoundCloud and YouTube after a number of influential US bloggers champion it.

Style and influences

Cari Cari are described as combining indie rock and pop rock with elements of 1960s psychedelia. Their sound also includes didgeridoo, jaw harp, large drums and a strong use of atmosphere.

Activity and travel

The duo spend several years travelling, looking for unusual and unheard sounds, with time spent in Melbourne, London and Tokyo.
