Captain Horizon

Captain Horizon are an original alternative rock band from the West Midlands. They form in 2008, when Joshua Watson and Alex Thomson begin writing songs together in the summer. The line-up is Steve “Whitty” Whittington on lead vocals, Joshua Watson on guitars and backing vocals, James “Mez” Merrix on drums and percussion, and Alex Thomson on bass and backing vocals.

The band’s music draws on a broad mix of alt, prog, classic rock, indie and pop influences. Their writing combines the high energy and intricate side of bands such as Incubus, Radiohead, Tool and Porcupine Tree with the classic stadium-rock approach associated with AC/DC, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd and U2. They describe their aim as making something new with each song and developing a sound that is their own.

Captain Horizon are known for live performances built around passion, energy, vocal harmonies and charisma, with performance and audience engagement treated as central to what they do. Mez joins shortly after the project begins and brings precise, original drumming, while Whitty completes the band with powerful vocals and a strong stage presence.
