Capercaillie

Capercaillie are a Celtic folk group from Oban, in the United Kingdom, active from 1984 to the present. The band is founded by Donald Shaw and fronted by Karen Matheson. Its line-up includes Marc Duff, Charlie McKerron, Donald Shaw, John Saich, Mánus Lunny, Michael McGoldrick, Ewen Vernal, Che Beresford and David "Chimp" Robertson.

The group records in celtic and folk styles and is associated with Scottish music, with Karen Matheson’s vocals at the centre of its sound. Its first album, Cascade, appears in 1984. In 1992, the EP Coisich, a Rùin becomes the first Scottish Gaelic language record to reach the UK Top 40 singles chart. Capercaillie also incorporates elements of electronics and African rhythms into its music while remaining rooted in Scottish folk.
