Candid

Candid is an American rock group from Syracuse, New York, formed in late 1998. The band consists of vocalist Corey Paige, guitarist J.P. Midgley, bassist Mike Spadaro and drummer Sean Benz. Their sound is described as rock with a mix of melodic and more abrasive influences, and the group develops a reputation for a strong local following through extensive live performance.

Early years and live activity

The band begins playing together in Syracuse and builds a large presence across the north-east of the United States. It performs hundreds of shows and shares bills with a range of national and overseas acts, including Fountains of Wayne, Tonic, Vertical Horizon, Andrew W.K. and Strangefolk. Candid also develops a loyal audience through regular live activity and community-based shows.

Recordings and recognition

Candid releases four independent recordings and later issues a fifth, Misinterpreter, in 2005. Earlier recordings include Crooked Things and A Comforting Thought. The group receives Syracuse Area Music Awards recognition, including Best Rock Band, Best Rock Vocalist and Best Rock Recording, and also places first in nearly every competition it enters.

Musical influences

The band cites a wide range of influences, including Weezer, Radiohead, Elvis Costello and Ani DiFranco, drawing on melody, atmosphere, sharp lyric writing and intimate songwriting.
