Camille is the recording name of French singer-songwriter Camille Dalmais, from Paris, France. Born in 1978, she works in chanson française and folk, and is also associated with indie and French vocal music.

Career

She studies political science before beginning her recording career. Her first album, Le sac des filles, appears in 2002. She then becomes part of Marc Collin’s Nouvelle Vague project, which reworks old new wave songs in bossa nova arrangements.

In 2005, she releases Le fil, a concept album built around a single note, B, which begins at the start of the record and ends at its close. The songs on the album centre on her voice, with only one instrument used, mainly double bass and, at times, keyboard.

Her third studio album, Music Hole, follows and marks a change in her work, as much of it is sung in English. Later albums include Live au Trianon, Ilo Veyou and Ilo Lympia.
