Cairo Pythian
Cairo Pythian is a post-punk and electronic act from Olympia, Washington, and is associated with a goth and coldwave scene in the Pacific Northwest. The project appears on a release described as a debut, issued in a limited run of 500 copies and linked to anonymous arts-guild activity out of Oslo, Norway.
Style and sound
The music is described as dark and sleazy in tone, with a focus on cold, nocturnal atmosphere. The release contains four short, aggressive songs with S&M and quick-death imagery, and it is compared in mood to material associated with Wierd Records compilations. One track, “Magus,” includes wah-wah lead guitar.
Connections and personnel
Cairo Pythian has a connection to Sex/Vid through Dave Harvey, who plays guitar on the sessions, while Capt. Trips produces the recordings. The project is also noted for a Gary Numan-influenced lean and for cover art that is presented as intentionally disturbing.
