Caïna

Caïna is a black metal, blackgaze and experimental group from Hampshire, United Kingdom, active since 2004. The project is centred on Andrew Curtis-Brignell, and it is presented as a one-man band in its early form, with Andy also using the name “A” on early releases. Its work is associated with black metal, shoegaze, experimental music and related styles.

Style and themes

Caïna draws on a wide range of influences, including black metal, death metal, drone, dream-pop, shoegaze, neofolk and post-rock. Each release is intended as a separate work with its own sound and atmosphere. The lyrics deal with English myths and legends, literature, the rejection of religion and the exaltation of the individual.

Releases

The discography includes the 2005 EP When We Are Grown, We Will Be Strong, the 2006 split Age of Thorns, and the EPs The Cold Taste of Perdition and The King Beneath. Other 2006 and 2007 releases include Some People Fall, I, Mountain, Mourner and The Heart of the Master. In 2008 the project releases Temporary Antennae, followed by several 2009 splits and an EP simply titled Caïna. Later releases include the 2011 compilation Will Over Worlds, the full-length Hands that Pluck, and the split White Medal/Caïna.
