Cain Culto

Cain Culto is a United States-based multidisciplinary artist whose work spans the visual and recording arts. He is the child of Colombian and Nicaraguan immigrant parents, and his early life is shaped by strict religious fundamentalism. He later uses his art to challenge dogma and to explore free thought, with queerness and politics forming part of his creative practice.

Before establishing his own voice, Culto studies bluegrass fiddle and performs in an indie Christian worship band. He describes that period as one in which he performs an inauthentic version of himself. He now works within a Kentucky Latin art-pop framework, drawing on memory, myth and resistance, and his music is associated with afrobeat, soul, pop, electronic and dance influences.
