Cage the Gods are a London-based hard rock group formed in 2012. The band brings together members from different parts of the UK and builds its sound around rock ’n’ roll and blues-influenced hard rock.

Formation and line-up

The band forms in the summer of 2012 when Irish vocalist Peter Comerford and Scottish guitarist Jam begin writing and recording material together. Welsh bassist Mitch Witham joins later, followed by English drummer Colin Jones, who replaces the original drummer NJ. Jones becomes the drummer after a debut performance supporting Filter.

Style and recordings

Cage the Gods are described as blending rock ’n’ roll culture from across the UK in a blues-heavy style. They spend much of 2012 writing, producing, recording and mixing their debut album, which remains untitled in the information provided and is due for release in early 2014. The band also takes on mastering, sleeve design and the manufacture of a limited-edition fan version of the record.

Their debut four-track EP, Favourite Sin, is self-released and includes the title track, “From the Start”, “Wake Up” and “Sacrifice” in acoustic form. The title track is framed around the idea of a guilty pleasure or taboo attraction.

Activity and live work

The group secures management, live agents, promoters and booking agents in 2013, including international management and UK and US booking representation. They play an opening slot on The Answer’s UK and Irish headline tour, with Tracer also appearing on the bill. Their live history also includes support slots with Filter, Heavens Basement and Tracer.

Recognition

The band receives coverage from Classic Rock magazine, which profiles them in a full-page feature and describes them as a band that could become very big.
