Byron Stingily is a Chicago-born singer-songwriter associated with house, deep house, disco house, dance, vocal house, R&B and soul. He is the lead singer of Ten City and also records as a solo artist.

Ten City

Stingily fronts Ten City, a house music group from Chicago. In the 1980s and the mid-1990s, he has several hits with the group. One of the group’s best-known tracks is That’s the Way Love Is, which reaches number one on the dance chart in 1989.

Solo work

As a solo performer, Stingily finds his biggest success on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. He reaches number one there three times. In 1997, Get Up (Everybody), produced by Zack Toms and Paul Simpson, spends a week at the top. In 1998, he returns to number one with a cover of Sylvester’s You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real), produced by Damien Mendis and Stuart Bradbury. In 1999, he re-records That’s the Way Love Is and takes it to number one again.

Later activity

After a short break, Stingily returns to a warmer, funkier garage and house sound associated with Ten City’s earlier work. He continues to record house music and contributes tracks to the underground house and dance community. Some of his singles are issued on Defected Records in the UK, among other labels.
