By Any Means

By Any Means is a free jazz group from the United States, formed by saxophonist Charles Gayle, bassist William Parker and drummer Rashied Ali. The trio records and performs as an improvised jazz unit built around Gayle’s tenor and alto saxophone, Parker’s bass and Ali’s drums.

The group is associated with Touchin' On Trane, a recording issued in 1991, and it is identified with the free jazz tradition. Its lineup is Charles Gayle, William Parker and Rashied Ali.

The name also appears in connection with a separate Northern Irish straight-edge hardcore band formed in 2009, but By Any Means is the United States jazz trio with Gayle, Parker and Ali.
