B*Witched

B*Witched are an Irish girl group from Dublin, Ireland, active from 1998 to the present. The group’s line-up consists of Lindsay Armaou, Edele Lynch, Keavy Lynch and Sinéad O’Carroll. Edele and Keavy Lynch are twin sisters and younger sisters of Boyzone member Shane Lynch.

Style and formation

The group combines Irish folk elements with mainstream pop and europop. They develop a tomboy image, with jeans and denim as part of their visual identity. Shane Lynch helps the group find a manager, and they sign to Glowworm Records, a subsidiary of Epic Records.

Early success

Their debut single, “C’est La Vie”, reaches number one in the UK and also enters the US Top 10. It makes them the youngest girl group to reach number one on the UK chart. Their debut album, B*Witched, reaches number three and goes triple platinum. The band also becomes the first group to have its first four singles all enter the UK chart at number one. B*Witched co-write many of their songs, including five of their seven UK singles.

Second album and later releases

Their second album, Awake and Breathe, peaks at number five. Its singles reach number four, number 13 and number 16. The group continues touring and begins work on a third album with producers Ray “Madman” Hedges and Richard Stannard. In the United States they release Across America 2000, which includes covers of “Mickey” and “Play That Funky Music”. They also appear on The Princess Diaries soundtrack with “Hold On”, a track from the planned third album.

Split and reunion

After the group is dropped by their record label, plans for a new deal with Telstar Records do not come together. B*Witched split in September 2002 after Sinéad O’Carroll leaves. The group reunites in 2013 for the reality series The Big Reunion, and later releases new material titled “Love and Money”.

Additional details

The group enjoys major popularity across Europe in the late 1990s and more modest success in the United States. Very rare dolls of the group are made by Yaboom Toys. Lindsay Armaou is later associated with the band Clayton.
