Busy P is the stage name of Pedro Winter, a French producer and DJ from Paris, France. He is also known as Pierre Winter.
Career
Winter begins his career in club culture in Paris, where he grows up with heavy metal, hip-hop and rock, influences that later shape his work. In 1992, he discovers electronic music with his brother Thomas Winter. He then DJs at the What's Up Bar and helps organise club nights including Hype at Folies Pigalle and Smoker The Palace with David Guetta.
In 1996, while studying law, he meets Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and becomes manager of Daft Punk. He remains in that role until 2008. He also works as a record producer, record label owner and former artist manager.
Ed Banger Records and related work
In 2002, Winter creates Headbangers Entertainment, managing artists including Cassius, Cosmo Vitelli, Thomas Winter et Bogue and DJ Mehdi. In 2003, he founds Ed Banger Records, which becomes closely associated with French electronic music. The label signs artists including Mr. Flash, Justice, SebastiAn, Uffie, DJ Mehdi, Mr. Oizo, Breakbot, Cassius and Myd.
Ed Banger’s first release is Mr. Flash’s Radar Rider. Winter later steps away from Daft Punk management to concentrate on the label and on his own work as Busy P.
Collaborations and releases
Winter contributes to Phoenix’s debut album United, playing a Rapman synthesizer on the track “Funky Squaredance”. He also releases a remix single of Fancy’s “What’s Your Name Again”, which becomes a club hit and has a video made under the Ed Banger Records banner.
Musical style
His music and wider career are rooted in electronic music, with associations to electro house, French electro, hip hop and other club-oriented styles. He is identified as a French producer and DJ, and he is linked with the Club 75 collective.
