Bus Station Loonies

Bus Station Loonies are a Plymouth-based anarcho-punk and punk group, formed in 1995. Their music is also described as cabaret punk, and they are sometimes compared with Dead Kennedys, the Undertones and the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. The band begins as an attempt to bring a sense of fun into the anarcho-punk scene.

Line-up and activity

The group has a changing membership and recruits many players over time, with around 30 people joining across a 10-year period. The original line-up includes Tony Popkids on drums and Chris Wheelchair on vocals, keyboards and kazoo. Chris Wheelchair has previously played drums with Oi Polloi, Disorder, Riot/Clone and DIRT, among others. The wider membership also includes Ad Nauseum, Johnny Hectic, Steve McPoundpants, Chris "The Machine" Mildren, Nufty D. Tufty, Sean O'Porno, Chris Willsher and Prof. Paul Perfectlyformed.

Media and records

Bus Station Loonies appear in the UK Channel 4 documentary Punx Picnic. They also set a world record for the most concerts played in 12 hours, performing 25 different shows in and around Plymouth, Devon, to raise money for musical equipment for pupils at Dame Hannah Rogers school in Ivybridge. The record later appears in the Guinness Book of World Records until it is beaten in 2006.
