Burna Boy

Burna Boy is the professional name of Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, a Nigerian rapper, singer-songwriter and record producer from Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He works in afrobeats, dancehall and reggae.

Early life and background

Ogulu is born in Port Harcourt and grows up in southern Nigeria. His father manages a welding company, his mother works as a translator, and his grandfather is Benson Idonije.

Career

Burna Boy rises to prominence in 2012 after releasing the lead single Like to Party from his debut studio album L.I.F.E (2013). His third studio album, Outside (2018), marks his major-label debut. In 2017, he signs with Bad Habit/Atlantic Records in the United States and Warner Music Group internationally. His fourth studio album, African Giant, follows in 2019 and is supported by the singles Gbona, On the Low, Killin Dem, Dangote, Anybody and Pull Up. He begins recording the album in 2018.

Recognition

In 2019, Burna Boy wins Best International Act at the BET Awards.
