Bullet For My Valentine are a metalcore band from Bridgend, Wales, in the United Kingdom. They are active from 2003 and are also known as Bullet or BFMV. Their line-up includes Matthew Tuck, Michael Paget, Jason Bowld, Jamie Mathias, Jay James, Michael “Moose” Thomas and Nick Crandle.

Early history

The band starts out in 1998 under the name Jeff Killed John, when it plays covers of Metallica and Nirvana songs. At first it has difficulty gaining attention, and the rise of other Welsh bands such as Lostprophets and Funeral For A Friend creates tension around the scene. When the band tries to record a demo, original bassist Nik Cradle leaves a week before the session. The group then breaks up, but later reforms with a new bassist, Jason James.

Name changes and label deal

After reforming, the group changes its name from Jeff Killed John to Opportunity In Chigago, and then to Bullet For My Valentine. It later signs a deal with Sony Records through Visible Noise in October 2004. The group is associated with heavy metal, melodic metalcore, metal and metalcore, and is linked to Spinefarm Records and Trustkill Records.
