Buke and Gass
Buke and Gass is a Brooklyn, United States-based indie rock group active since 2008. The act consists of Arone Dyer and Aron Sanchez. It is now known as Buke and Gase.
Line-up and instruments
Arone Dyer performs buke and voice, while Aron Sanchez plays drums and gass. The buke is a self-modified six-string baritone ukulele, and the gass is a guitar-bass hybrid. Both performers also use foot percussion.
Sound and style
The group builds a layered sound from homemade acoustic instruments, using distortion, acoustic resonance, and rhythmic complexity. Its music combines folk-influenced grit, early blues elements, and progressive or experimental modern rock. Arone Dyer’s vocals are a major part of the group’s character, with high, expressive melodies and a wide vocal range.
Background
Aron Sanchez builds instruments for the Blue Man Group and invents the Aronophonic. Arone Dyer works as a bike mechanic and also sings on Blue Man Group’s “What Is Rock”. The two musicians meet through this wider experimental performance and instrument-building context.
Release history
The debut CD, Riposte, is released on Brassland.
