Buen Chico
Buen Chico is a rock and indie group from West Yorkshire, England, active since 1998. The band is based in Leeds and has been described as drawing on pop, new wave, Motown, alternative indie and punk influences.
Background and style
The group’s songs combine a wide range of influences, with reference points including Supergrass, The Ramones, The Kinks, Weezer, The Flaming Lips and The Pixies. Their sound sits across indie rock, rock and indie, with a straightforward guitar-band approach shaped by punk energy and pop melody.
Releases and label
Buen Chico signs to Faith & Hope Records, an independent label in Manchester. The band appears on the first Dance to the Radio compilation, and records the single Giving Your Gifts for release in 2007. Another single, based around the song Things, is also recorded for release.
Live activity and radio support
The band plays with a number of other UK indie acts, including Kaiser Chiefs, The Subways, The Kooks, Boy Kill Boy, The Long Blondes, GoodShoes, The Cribs, Forward Russia! and The Pipettes. Its music also receives radio support from Zane Lowe, who plays it in his Fresh Meat slot, and from Tom Robinson on BBC 6Music.
