Bruno Berle is a musician, composer, poet and multi-instrumentalist from Maceió, in Brazil’s Alagoas state. He works in Brazilian popular music, with links to bossa nova, MPB, Brazilian music and broader world music.

Music

Berle records in a style that combines heartfelt pop songwriting with Brazilian love songs, ambient passages, warm beat-driven arrangements and gentle MPB influences. His voice is a central part of his work, and he plays most of the instruments on his recordings.

He has a background in the soft-rock group Troco em Bala. He also becomes part of collaborative music scenes in Maceió, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, working with other artists across those circles.

No Reino Dos Afetos

No Reino Dos Afetos is one of his key albums. On it, he pursues beauty through simple, graceful songwriting and detailed arrangements. The record includes the contemporary R&B-influenced single “Quero Dizer”, produced with longtime friend and collaborator Batata Boy. It also features “O Nome Do Meu Amor”, a sparse acoustic song built around Berle’s vocal line, and a range of styles including indie rock, ambient field recordings and his own version of West African highlife.

The album also includes “Até Meu Violao”, a song by João Menezes, and draws on a close-knit group of Maceió musicians, with Batata Boy described as one of its key members. Ana Frango Elétrico is among the artists Berle collaborates with in the wider contemporary scene, and also takes the photograph for the album cover.
