Brujo's Bowl is the alias of Saxon Higgs, a psychedelic and downtempo artist from the United Kingdom, originally from mid Wales. Higgs starts making music as a teenager, playing several instruments, performing in bands and organising jam sessions in the Welsh countryside. He becomes interested in electronic music while still at secondary school, at a time when dubstep is developing a non-commercial club sound, and cites producers such as 2562 as an influence. In 2008, at the age of 17, he teaches himself music production software through tutorials and begins playing tracks at club nights, where he receives encouraging feedback.
Style and development
After attending psy-festivals in 2009 and 2010, Higgs changes direction and begins working under the Brujo's Bowl name. The project combines psychedelic sound effects, atmospheric sound design, deep bass lines and tribal-influenced rhythms, with a dub-oriented mix of dubstep, psygressive, minimal and dub.
Releases and labels
Brujo's Bowl releases early EPs through several labels, including 900 on Glitchy Tonic Records and Healing With Sound on Arkona Creation in 2011. Later that year, the project releases Minimaliptus fruits on Distant Tremor Records. It also appears on Zenon Records with The Real Picture EP and the debut album Wealth is the seed, both in 2011, followed by the EP Sound and Rhythm in 2013.
Triple Drop Productions
Higgs also founds the UK label Triple Drop Productions. Through it, he releases the second album Peace Data in 2012, along with the EPs Mother Nature's Nipple and Particles That Linger in 2013. His other project, Beatroots, is also associated with the label.
