Broken Note

Broken Note is a UK electronic music group from London, made up of Tommy Andrews and Eddie Jefferys, who is also known as Kidnappa of 16Bit. The pair come from different musical backgrounds, one from punk and the other from hip-hop, and they form the project around a shared interest in heavy bass music and the atmosphere of London squat parties.

The group works in styles associated with darkstep, drill and bass, drum and bass, dubstep and halftime. Their music is described as combining bass-heavy production with rough rhythmic elements drawn from breakcore, jungle, gabber and techno. They are known for a dark, aggressive approach that sits within club settings as well as larger warehouse-type spaces.

Broken Note is based in London, England and is active from 2008. Their live performances use two laptops running Ableton Live, along with MIDI controllers, effects, on-the-spot warping, cueing and live key work. Their sets mix their own material with tracks that influence them, ranging from dark dubstep and hardtekno to heavy drum and bass and hardcore.

The duo’s releases are noted for a sound that moves beyond standard dubstep conventions, with an emphasis on heavy bass and harsh, technical beats. Their drum and bass material is similarly heavy and draws on the darker side of electronic dance music.
