Brodka

Brodka is the stage name of Monika Brodka, a Polish pop singer from Żywiec, Poland. She comes to prominence after winning Polish Pop Idol in 2004 and builds a large following in Poland through a string of albums that receive critical attention.

Early success and debut recordings

Her first album arrives when she is still a teenager and is described as a sensitive, fresh take on pop music that also highlights her voice. Her second album follows two years later and reaches golden record status.

Granda and stylistic change

After a break from recording, she releases Granda, which marks a deliberate change in direction. The album presents a more mature and experimental sound, with folk, electronic and experimental elements set against a pop background. It is produced and co-composed by Bartosz Dziedzic and goes on to reach double platinum status.

Awards and recognition

Brodka and Dziedzic receive recognition for their work, including wins at the SuperHiro Magazine Award and Gala’s Rose, as well as a Polityka Passport nomination. She also receives ten Fryderyki nominations from Poland’s Phonographic Academy and wins four awards there for Best Female Vocalist, Best Pop Album, Best Music Production and Best Music Video. Later nominations include the MTV European Music Awards and further Fryderyki recognition for LAX, the song “Varsovie” and Artist of the Year.

Live work and other interests

Following Granda, she tours widely in Poland with her band and plays more than 60 concerts. She also records in English, and alongside music she takes an interest in photography and fashion. She is also associated with Męskie Granie Orkiestra.
