Brimstone

Brimstone is a Swedish group from Kristinehamn, Sweden, active since 1996, known for combining power metal and melodic death metal with death metal vocals. The band is identified as a Swedish power metal act, but its harsh vocal style places it outside traditional power metal and gives the music a more extreme metal character.

Early history

The group begins under the name Havoc and records two demos before changing its name to Brimstone. Jan-Erik Persson provides the death metal-style vocals that are a defining feature of the band’s sound.

Album

Brimstone releases one album, Carving a Crimson Career, in 1999. The track list includes “Breaking The Waves,” “Pagan Sons,” “Autumn,” “Carving A Crimson Career,” “King Of My Kind,” “Tunes Of Thunder,” “Heavy Metal Kid,” and “Welcome To The Night.” The contrast between the melodic, power metal music and Persson’s harsh voice is noted as the element that most clearly distinguishes the band from more conventional metal acts.
